Call for Papers
20th South-Eastern European Economic Research Workshop “Monetary Policy, Financial Stability and Artificial Intelligence in a World of Elevated Uncertainty”, 24-25 November 2026
Bank of Albania is pleased to celebrate the 20th edition of the South-Eastern European Economic Research Workshop, to be held in Tirana, Albania, on 24 and 25 November 2026. Marking two decades of fostering research excellence and policy dialogue, the Workshop has become a well-established forum for the exchange of ideas among central bankers, academics, market practitioners and policymakers from the region and beyond. Participants are invited to present and discuss their latest research findings in economics and finance, while exploring emerging challenges and opportunities facing central banks and modern economies. The Workshop will center around the theme “Monetary Policy, Financial Stability and Artificial Intelligence in a World of Elevated Uncertainty”.
The Workshop aims to foster long-term research collaboration, promote knowledge sharing, and encourage meaningful interaction among participants from diverse professional and academic backgrounds.
Suggested topics
Consistent with its tradition, it welcomes both theoretical and empirical contributions on the following topics, including but not limited to:
– Monetary Policy in an Era of Elevated Uncertainty: Inflation persistence, supplyside shocks, exchange rates and policy transmission, and central bank communication
– Artificial Intelligence, Productivity and Economic Growth: Implications for labour markets, innovation, investment and the natural rate of interest
– Digital Transformation of Finance and Payments: CBDCs, tokenisation, instant payments, stablecoins and the future of monetary systems, including the role of governance, credibility and institutional adaptation
– Climate Risks, Energy Transition and Macroeconomic Outcomes: Implications for central banks and financial regulators
– Micro Data, Big Data and New Methods in Economic Analysis: machine learning and AI applications in macroeconomics and finance
– Household Finance, Financial Inclusion and Economic Well-being: Evidence from surveys, experiments and administrative datasets
– Economic Forecasting and Risk Assessment: Advances in machine learning, AI and nowcasting techniques for policy analysis
The event will feature a keynote lecture by Prof. Harald UHLIG, Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago
Submission Guidelines
Authors interested in presenting their research are welcome to submit extended abstracts or, preferably, full paper drafts along with a short bio, to: BoAresearchworkshop@bankofalbania.org.
The submission deadline is 1 September 2026.
In your submission, please tell us whether you would be willing to act as a discussant of another paper presented in the workshop. Submitted papers will be reviewed by our Selection Committee, which will notify the authors of accepted papers by 15 September 2026. Final papers and the presentation slides should be sent no later than 15 October 2026 to BoAresearchworkshop@bankofalbania.org.
