Invitation and Call for Papers - Bank of Albania (BoA)

Join us for the 17th South-Eastern European Economic Research Workshop, 4-5 December 2023, hybrid event

Bank of Albania has the pleasure to announce its 17th South-Eastern European Economic Research Workshop (SEE-ERW), which will be held on 4 and 5 December 2023. SEE-ERW 2023 will be a hybrid event: in-person in Tirana for those who can travel, and virtual for those who cannot.

The main aim of this workshop is to bring together central bankers, academics, market practitioners and policymakers from the SEE region and around the world to present and discuss, latest empirical research in economics and finance. The workshop aims to develop long-term collaborative relationships and encourage interaction among participants in their fields of interests. In line with our tradition, the workshop is open to multidisciplinary research and welcomes theoretical and empirical contribution on central bank relevant topics.

Suggested topics

We welcome theoretical and empirical contributions on following topics of interest*:

• Inflation dynamics and expectations against labor market, asset price and demographic challenges;
• Monetary policy normalization, financial and fiscal risk from central bank perspective: Assessing the cost of bringing down inflation;
• The optimal mix of monetary and fiscal policy in the context of monetary expansion, energy and commodity market developments, and climate transition perspective;
• International economics, foreign currency fluctuations: implications for macroeconomics, banking and finance;
• Household behavior, portfolios choices and risk, the role of assets prices, interest rate, and inflation;
• Sustainable finance, financial literacy and inclusion: the role of the financial sector and central banks;
• Innovations in payments, digital currencies, and artificial intelligence: Implications for central banking.
• New developments and advances of research techniques and methodology in the study of exploring economics and finance.

*Please note that it is also possible to follow the workshop without presenting a paper.

 The scope of the workshop is not limited to the topics listed above, and submissions onother related topics are also welcome.

Submissions

Authors interested in presenting their research, are welcome to submit extended abstracts (300–500 words including the title, keywords, JEL classification, authors’ names and affiliation) or, preferably, full drafts of papers and a short bio, to BoAresearchworkshop@bankofalbania.org. The submission deadline is 2 October 2023. In your submission, please tell us whether you would like also to act as a discussant of another paper presented in the workshop.

Submitted papers will be reviewed by our Selection Committee, which will notify the authors of accepted papers by 16 October 2023.

Final papers and the PowerPoint Presentations should be sent no later than November 27, 2023 to BoAresearchworkshop@bankofalbania.org.

General Information

Workshop attendance is free of charge and includes coffee breaks and lunches for both days. A social program will be also organized on the occasion of this event. In-person participants from central banks, academia and other institutions are responsible for arranging their own travel and accommodation.

The Bank of Albania will consider covering accommodation costs for a limited number of accepted authors, who are in the final stages of their PhD studies.
